Rhode Island Adopts 7% Sales Tax on Real Estate Commissions
The good news is that this headline is not real ---- yet. The bad news is it could be since the government is scrambling for new sources of revenue. Here are just a few of the proposals: a sales tax on services (including real estate and appraisal), weakening property tax caps, taxes on net or gross receipts (your commissions).
Can you afford to pay higher taxes? If not, join RIAR President Karl Martone and your fellow REALTORS at REALTOR Day at the State House on Tuesday, April 6th . Let’s tell our elected officials that we oppose new taxes and tax increases that would hurt real estate and home owners.
Registration starts at 2 p.m. The top leaders of the House and Senate have accepted our invitation to speak in the State Room at 2:30 p.m. sharp.
Special guest speakers: Senate President Teresa Paiva-Weed & House Speaker Gordon Fox
