Lead Inspection and Mitigation Requirements: There are two-page fact sheets about the law from the Housing Resources Commission. Or you can call (800) 570-0768 or go to http://www.hrc.ri.gov. RIAR urges you to print these out and give them to your clients, including sellers, buyers, and landlords of residential property built before 1978.
Licensed Lead Inspectors, Inspector Technicians and Mitigation Contractors: Hire a licensed Lead Inspector or Inspector Technician to determine whether there are any lead hazards. To find out how to become licensed call Donna Poissant, Industrial Hygenist at the Department of Health at 401-222-7750 or email Donna_Poissant@doh.state.ri.us. For information about lead poisoning, please visit the RI Department of Health website.
Is Your Lead Inspector or Contractor Licensed? To comply with the new lead regulations, which will go into effect on November 1, 2005, your clients and customers who own or wish to buy pre-1978 rental housing may need the services of individuals who can perform lead inspections (Environmental Lead Inspectors, Environmental Lead Inspector Technicians) or lead mitigation (Lead Hazard Reduction Contractors, Lead Safe Remodelers/Renovators).
Questions? Contact Monica Staaf, RIAR Legal Counsel, at 785-3650 x 245 or email monica@riliving.com.
