Contractors Continuing Education

As of April 1, 2016, the Contractors Registration and Licensing Board has approved the Rhode Island Association of Realtors® to offer Continuing Education credits for contractor licensing renewal in 2018.

“Continuing education requirements established by law for residential contractors will take effect during the next registration renewal cycle (4/1/16 – 4/31/18).   This means that all residential contractors including contractors who perform both residential and commercial work, will be required to obtain and provide proof of five (5) hours of continuing education classes prior to the renewal of the registration in 2018.”

Classes, Dates & Times

3 – 1 Wetlands & Coastal Real Estate
Learn about regulations regarding the protection of land which is recognized to be wetlands or coastal shores, identification of freshwater and coastal wetlands, DEM’s activities protecting wetlands, disclosure responsibilities of real estate agents, and ISDS regulations.
3 – 2 The Truth About Mold & Risk Management
Explores the impact of mold on the real estate industry.  This course provides you with practical information on remediation, reducing liability, sampling and testing kits, health effects of mold and the differences between mold and other environmental red flags.
3 – 3 Don’t Play With Fire – Understanding the Fire Code
This course is designed to educate the student on the many issues involved in making sure that your client/customer has a potential home that is fire-safe.  The instructor will introduce topics related to:  how to notice issues on fire safety; how to correct an unsafe situation; how to point out to your client/customer the need for fire safety when purchasing or selling a home.
3 – 4 Floods & FEMA: What You Need to Know
This course will explain the most updated information from FEMA concerning the new guidelines on floods and flood impacts. This will help the licensee to assist their customer/client by guiding them through transactions that may be affected by the new regulations.  Things are changing quickly and you need to be on top of this “hot potato” issue!
