When you think about it, how much of your knowledge was derived from a classroom versus casual conversations with other people? Personally, I think the vast majority of the things I know today came to me by way of friends, colleagues and mentors. That’s why I’ve constantly stressed the importance of networking and mentorship as a means of enhancing professionalism in our association.
I bring this up to remind you of the many fantastic opportunities RI REALTORS® offers it members to mix and mingle with others in our profession. For example, I was overwhelmed a few weeks ago when I attended a Past Presidents and YPN event at 210 Oyster Bar in South Kingstown. It was a great evening that allowed us all to take a breather from our busy schedules, learn from others in the industry, and share a lot of laughs along the way. Admittedly, I went there thinking that I was going to a mentoring event with our younger agents, but I’m sure I learned just as much as they did, if not more!
Along those same lines, the RI REALTORS® Professional Development Center is hosting a FREE educational/networking event on Friday May 5th at the Officers’ Club in Newport. If you didn’t attend our REBar Camp at Kirkbrae Country Club last fall, you have another chance to see what REBar Camp is all about. REBar Camp offers our members a great opportunity to discuss topics of interest to them and share best practices. As an added plus, cybersecurity expert, Francesca Spidalieri from Salve Regina University will join us to offer some tips about how we can reduce our exposure to cyber fraud, a critical component of running a business in today’s world. Space is filling up fast so if you would like more information or want to register, visit RIRealtors.org/rebarbvxxrucwvrurfscvfcssfsabsydqweyt.
On another note, I’m happy to say the “new and improved” RILiving.com has launched and promotion for the new site started this week! The “new” RILiving offers you the opportunity for more photos at an increased size, enhanced property descriptions, more detailed member profile pages, new Featured Property ads in the Showcase Carousel and of course, mobile friendly display.
Additionally, RILiving now displays active commercial properties posted to the RICIE database, maximizing the exposure of those listings to a significantly wider consumer audience. However, to appear on RILiving, commercial properties must be put into the RICIE system.
RICIE has made remarkable strides in the past year. Now the source of commercial real estate data for Commerce RI, RICIE currently showcases more than four million square feet of commercial space for sale and 1093 acres of land for sale totaling $324 million. It also highlights more than three million square feet of commercial space for lease. Please make sure your clients know about this valuable resource.
With the inroads RI REALTORS® has made this past year on RICIE and at the international MIPIM Conference that we attended last month (watch our video), our organization has positioned itself as a serious player in economic development and I look forward to seeing how far we can go on that front.
In the meantime, I’m content to know that the weather is warmer, the days are longer and good things are ahead. What more can a person ask for?
