DBR adopts staggered license renewal for new licensees

Any applicant who is issued a new real estate broker’s or salesperson’s license on or after January 1, 2020 will be required to renew his/her licensee two years after the date on which the new license was first issued. According to the RI Department of Business Regulation, the purpose for this change is to make DBR’s license renewal more efficient over time and to “avoid having to prorate licensing fees for new applicants.”

This requirement will apply to new licenses only and will not apply to renewals of existing licenses. Anyone who is issued a new license before January 1, 2020 will continue to renew on or before April 30th in even years.
