This is our Rhode Island story:

At a time when states are fiercely competing to lure businesses, Ms. Raimondo, (Rhode Island’s Governor), is scoring a string of successes. Over the past 15 months, 15 companies, including Fortune 500 firms, have announced plans to locate or expand in Rhode Island, and 19 real estate projects, including hotels and apartments, have been approved.”

New York Times, March 3, 2017

Rhode Island is RIch in Advantages

The smallest state in the USA, Rhode Island is home to one million residents who enjoy a variety of lifestyles in one concise package — coastal, urban, rural and suburban. Though its size is small, opportunities abound.  Rhode Island sits at the center of a 33-million-person megalopolis that stretches from Portland, Maine, to metropolitan New York. Each year this region produces a combined economic output of $2.1 trillion and a combined innovation output of 16,000 patents.

Economic incentives

Rhode Island offers dozens of economic incentives to help businesses thrive. This economic incentives e-book will help you familiarize yourself with the business incentives available in Rhode Island that can help ensure your success.

In addition, the Opportunity Zones program is a new federal economic development tool for designated communities to attract private equity investment in businesses and real estate. This program provides a tax incentive for private investors to direct capital gains into equity investments in qualified projects within designated Opportunity Zones. The incentive is designed to encourage long-term investment – with certain tax benefits kicking in only after maintaining the investment for at least ten years.

Rhode Island Opportunity Zones are located in twenty-five census tracts spread across the following fifteen municipalities: Bristol, Central Falls, Cranston, Cumberland, East Providence, Narragansett, Newport, North Providence, Pawtucket, Providence, South Kingstown, Warren, West Warwick, Westerly, and Woonsocket.

“Realtors®’ international clients found U.S. commercial real estate markets to be a good value in 2017. About seven in 10 respondents reported that international clients view U.S. prices to be about the same or less expensive than prices in their home country.”
