Search for Lead Service Lines on New RI Department of Health Database

The Rhode Island Department of Health has created a publicly searchable database of lead service lines120Water PTD  Members of the public can search to find out whether public and private service lines are made from lead. This is a separate from the rental registry database.

This database was created to complete with a 2023 law that requires water authorities to inspect water service lines and notify property owners and tenants if the property’s service line contains lead.

When the law was enacted, the intent was to make funding available for water authorities to replace these service lines. If a landlord fails to cooperate with the water authority’s inspection or allow the water authority to replace the service line, a tenant can terminate the lease without penalty.

Please note that a disclaimer on the Rhode Island Department of Health website states that some of the information may be incomplete if the local water authority has not yet entered the data.
