Barrington – Town Hall and DPW closed to public. Land Evidence (Deeds/ Mortgages) – Click here to search Land Evidence Records. For public access to the land records index for Barrington, click here, then select the State of Rhode Island, and the Town of Barrington. View fees.

Block Island- See executive order.

Bristol – Town offices will be closed to the public until further notice. For the health and safety of municipal staff and community members, the Town of Bristol is asking all residents to conduct their business with the Town through its website, by phone (401-253-7000), or by U.S. mail. In-person appointments will be granted on a case-by-case basis. To request an appointment, please contact Bristol Town Hall at 401-253-7000 during normal business hours. Burrillville – The Burrillville Town Hall is closed to the public. The Town Clerk’s office will accept land evidence recording by appointment only. If you can send land evidence in the mail, please do so. We will continue to process land evidence recordings that come in the mail. Call the Town Clerk’s office about making an appointment.

Central Falls – is operating by appointment only. To make an appointment or drop something off, please call the appropriate department or the Mayor’s Hotline at 401-727-7474.

Charlestown – Due to the recent concerns regarding the Coronavirus and the latest guidance from federal, state and local officials, the Town of Charlestown is urging all residents to call or email before coming to Town Hall and to take advantage of online, mail and drop box services.

Coventry – Town Hall is closed with limited access. All paperwork must be put in the Tax Collector drop-box outside the main entrance. Please write the correct department on the envelope to ensure it makes it to the correct department.

Cranston – City Hall is open with limited staffing.

CumberlandCumberland Town Hall will be closed to the public until further notice.  Residents may reach their desired department by telephone. The town also encourages individuals to utilize online resources whenever possible.  There is a drop-box outside of Town Hall that can also be used for payments. It is located by the ADA entrance on the side of the Town Hall, it will be checked daily.

East Greenwich – “Town Clerk’s Office (401-886-8605 – 125 Main Street) Administrative offices are closed to the publicEmergencies will be handled by appointment only. ALL services will be managed by mail, on-line or over the phone as much as possible.Individual appointments (made by and under the discretion of the Deputy Town Clerk) are available for access to the vault strictly for the purpose of title searching and the recording of deeds/mortgages (essential recordings). PLEASE USE THE DROPBOX LOCATED OUTSIDE THE FIRST FLOOR ENTRANCE ON COURTHOUSE LANE FOR APPLICATIONS, PAYMENTS, ETC.

  • Land Records (Deeds and Mortgages) ~ CONTACT DIANNE POTTER (401) 886-8607 * Access to vault for title searching available by appointment only for essential documents. All others must mail originals to the Town Clerk’s office, PO Box 111, East Greenwich, RI 02818. Records are currently NOT available on-line

East Providence –  Effective April, 6, 2020, there will no longer be in-person appointments with City Hall.  City services will continue and will be conducted by internet, phone, mail, or drop off. Payments and requests for service may still be made online via the City’s website or by calling City Hall at 401-435-7500

Exeter – Town Hall is closed to public.

Foster – The Town Hall restricted hours of operation from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday. Recordings can be left in the drop box. For the exact cost of each recording, please call the Town Clerk 401-392-9200. If you need access to the vault please call to make an appointment.

Glocester – Town Hall closed for walk-in customers. 401-568-6206 ext. 0 – Town Clerk Land Evidence recordings can be mailed in or call to make arrangements; you will not be allowed in the building. To search records go to

Hopkinton – Town Hall closed to the public. You are asked to call or email the Town Clerk to make an appointment.

Jamestown – Town Hall is closed to the public. Land Evidence can be searched online and all recordings will be done via mail or can be dropped in the Town’s outside drop box. Please include a self-addressed return envelope.

Johnston – Town offices open by appointment only. See town office directory here.

Lincoln – Town Hall is closed to the public but is taking calls for essential appointments. Recordings can be mailed, left in the dropbox by the entrance to Town Hall or, if urgent, call 333-1100 for an appointment with the Town Clerk’s Office.

Little Compton – Town Hall is closed until further notice. Please call the appropriate department for information. Calls are being answered remotely.

Narragansett – is encouraging recordings by mail. Only one customer will be admitted to the Town Clerk’s office at a time and requires an appointment, regardless of the nature of the transaction. Documents can be left outside the office door or in the dropbox outside the building. They will process and confirm recording, and return documents per instructions. Land evidence records are available online back to 01/01/1985. If something older than that needs to be checked, please call 401-782-0624 or email the town clerk at and they will do their best to assist.

The Town of Narragansett is requesting assistance from our real estate brokers, rental agents, private parties that rent units, and online platforms for rentals in the Town of Narragansett.  These businesses are urged NOT to rent any units during the time of this State and Town Declaration of State of Emergency.

New Shoreham – Town Hall is closed. Recordings are accepted by mail. Land Evidence available by email request including book and page number. See all Coronavirus updates here.

Newport – Closed to the public.  For Real Estate transactions, sales are being recorded on an individual basis. Please contact the City Clerk’s Office to make arrangements.

North Kingstown – Town Hall open by appointment. Encouraged to use mail and dropbox services. Town Clerk 268-1551. See COVID-19 information and resources.

PawtucketCity Hall will be closed to the public until further notice.  They are advising residents and businesses to take advantage of its online, mail-in services and utilization of the City’s drop box located in the lobby of City Hall. Portsmouth – Please conduct all business with the town remotely via internet, telephone or mail. If you MUST come into Town Hall, call ahead to 401-643-0499 to ensure staff is present. Enter at the SOUTH side of the building only. Use hand sanitizer, located in wall units, on entry and in offices throughout the building. Portsmouth residents may call 401-643-0379 (Portsmouth Emergency Operations Center “EOC”) seven days a week, 8 am to 6 pm for general inquiries related to the current health situation or for accessing municipal services. Providence  – Electronic recording is now available for the City of Providence. More information and the e-recording link is available at As a result of this service, hand delivery of documents to Providence City Hall for recording after 1pm on Thursday will be discontinued. Delivery by FedEx, UPS and USPS are still accepted. Also note:

  • The Inspections of buildings and other infrastructure will continue as regularly scheduled.*
  • Tax Collection will be accessible online, by phone or by mail. Mailed payments should include quarterly coupon and a personal check, certified check or money order payable to the City of Providence.* The City will accept all non-escrowed and current-taxpayer 4th quarter tax payments until June 30th without 4th quarter interest or penalty.
  • The Recorder of Deeds maintains an online database of land evidence documents from August 1, 2004, to present.
  • Emergency title searches are available during the closure. Click here for Emergency Title Request and Instructions
  • Tax Assessment services will be accessible online. Time-sensitive documents, such as homestead exemption applications, are available online and can be mailed to City Hall or e-mailed to and will continue to be processed.*

Richmond – Town Hall visitors by appointment. Land Evidence (Deeds/ Mortgages) – Click here to Search Land Evidence Records. Your Land Evidence Filings can be sent to us for recording at 5 Richmond Townhouse Road, Wyoming, RI 02898. Attention Town Clerk.

Scituate – The Town offices are closed to the public. Please contact individual town departments for the most up-to-date information. LAND EVIDENCE: You can now search land evidence information online. Look for Rhode Island databases, then click on Scituate. Click here for information on Building & Zoning.

Smithfield – The Smithfield Town Hall and all other municipal buildings are closed to public traffic until further notice.  All departments are currently operating and all staff will be available by phone or email.

South Kingstown – Town Hall and all municipal offices that remain open to the public are no longer allowing walk-in service, and are open to the public by appointment only. Many questions can be answered by phone or email, and many services are available on the Town’s website – an appointment may not even be necessary. Members of the public can use the Drop Box at Town Hall to submit items that do not require face to face interaction, such as tax or utility payments (no cash please), employment applications, etc. If an appointment is necessary, please call (401) 789-9331 and use the department directory. The staff directory is also available as a link on the Town’s homepage.

Tiverton – Town Hall is closed to the public. Recordings should be sent (with instructions) via mail or hand-delivered to the gray drop box located outside the Town Hall. Envelopes are provided adjacent to the dropbox. Additionally, recording appointments can also be made by calling 401-625-6703.

Warren – Municipal (Town Hall) offices and the offices of the Warren Housing Authority will remain open by appointment only. Updates, information and many services are available through the town’s website: Detailed information is available on the town’s website or by calling the Town Clerk’s office at 401-245-7340 x 4. There will be a document lock box located in the back stairwell of Town Hall (accessible via the rear parking area) between the hours of 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM Monday through Friday.

Warwick – All City buildings closed to the public. Please contact individual city departments for the most up-to-date information. Kent County Courthouse in Warwick closed. R.I. Traffic Tribunal also closing – Emergency/essential matters will be heard in Providence courthouses for now.

West Greenwich – The Town Hall will remain open for ESSENTIAL business and only by appointment. Please call 392-3800 to make an appointment. The tax payment drop box has been moved to the police side of the building where payments can be inserted.

West Warwick – Town Hall closed to public. Residents and businesses are encouraged to use online services and mail. As of 3/20/20, the Town of West Warwick will be continuing their on-site home inspections for Smoke and CO alarm certifications for title transfers. While the state has recently put out “options” regarding the use of escrow accounts or videotaped inspections, the town will continue their normal inspection process with slight modifications until further notice.  Smoke Alarm & Carbon Monoxide Alarm Inspection Applications must be mailed in with a check or processed and paid for online here:

  • Building & Zoning – Permits can be obtained and paid for on-line. If you do not want to pay the credit card’s convenience fee you can drop your check off in the payment box in the rear of Town Hall. Please put it in an envelope with the label “Building Department”.

Westerly -The Town Hall is CLOSED for public access without an appointment. Call 348-2500 to make an appointment. Residents and businesses are advised to take advantage of online and mail-in services and to utilize the Town’s Dropbox located on the side of the Town Hall. Please visit the Town of Westerly website at; click on Land Records Online. Land Evidence documents can be sent for recording to Westerly Town Clerk, 45 Broad Street, Westerly, RI 02891. They can also be recorded electronically through one of its vendors.

WoonsocketCity Hall is closed to the public until further notice.  As of March 18th, the city is also suspending fire inspections until further notice.
