One of my goals when I took office was to cultivate REALTOR® leaders and to raise the bar on education and our profession. I’m happy to report that we’ve made significant progress toward that end this year.
For example, RI REALTORS® has been working with Bryant University to launch a partnership with the University’s Executive Development Program to enable our members to earn a Certificate in Business Excellence. Students will be able to take either a CORE course in leadership for one certificate or the CORE course plus five electives to complete Bryant’s full certificate program. The final details are being worked out so stay tuned!
RI REALTORS® is also working with Roger Williams University to have National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) designation and certification courses accredited toward a Bachelor’s degree. This would serve as a pathway for the NAR Realtor University Master’s Degree program.
Our GRI courses are already accepted for up to 25 percent of the required coursework for an Associate of Science degree in Business Studies at the Community College of Rhode Island. If all goes as planned, these additional programs would further enhance our members’ ability to achieve advanced certifications and degrees from some of Rhode Island’s outstanding institutions of higher learning.
Last but not least, in August I will be joining Phil Tedesco and Ann Enos, (RI REALTORS® CEO and Director of Professional Development, respectively) in a meeting with Dr. Rod McIntyre, Vice President of Program Development for the Kansas Association of REALTORS®. Dr. McIntyre has worked with many state associations to formulate leadership programs and we’re thrilled that he will be consulting with us here in Rhode Island. I have no doubt that we will learn about many effective methods to fully develop our leadership track. We are enthusiastically awaiting his arrival.
I’m well aware that the real estate profession is a 24/7 job but if you can carve the time out to take advantage of some of these REALTOR® benefits, you, as well as our entire membership, will be well-served. We’re working hard to bring you the best educational opportunities available. Afterall, in real estate, as in life, information is key!
Until next month, enjoy your summer,
