RIAR President's Report - June 2017

June 27, 2017 We're officially almost one week into summer and things are definitely looking brighter. At least we've been seeing some sun mixed in with the clouds! All the rain we've had doesn’t seem to have dampened anyone’s enthusiasm about homeownership. Last month was the busiest May on record since the Association began keeping monthly home sales records in 1998. Obviously, you won’t hear many complaints from anyone in our profession. While I’m obviously thrilled that the market has turned around so dramatically in the past few years, the reality is, real estate is cyclical and things will change in time.  We need to be mindful of that and be prepared. Have a solid, long-term plan for your business.  Put a little away for less lucrative times. Pay for extra expenses in full now rather than putting them off.  (For example, license recertification is right around the corner – why not take those courses now rather than waiting for the last minute?) Also, if you can, take advantage of the free events and presentations coming up at RI REALTORS. They’re meant to help you bring your A game to your business transactions. If you haven’t joined us for any of our Brown Bag Lunches, Broker Forums, or special educational presentations, give them a try.  Topics are varied and interesting and I’m sure you will leave with great new insights about our business that will help you propel forward in the future.  Watch your email or check out the calendar to see what’s coming up. Finally, just a quick reminder: If you’re submitting an offer, submit a complete offer – offer form, disclosures and earnest money. Anyone who has seen the disappointment in a client’s face when an “offer” fell through because all the I’s weren’t dotted and the T’s weren’t crossed, understands how important this is. Call me a stickler for details, but we’re the professionals. Our rules were made for a reason and if we as professionals don’t follow them, we lose some of our value. On that note, go forth and prosper! As I write this, the sun is shining, sales are happening and there’s never been a better time to be a REALTOR®! Happy Summer,   Brenda L. Marchwicki
