Obtaining a Reciprocal Real Estate License in RI
If you hold an active real estate license in Connecticut or Massachusetts, you can obtain RI reciprocal license in 3 easy steps!
While licensing in RI is through the RI Department of Business Regulation (DBR), RI REALTORS® can assist with the education requirement, plus resources on helping you with what comes next. Note: If you hold an active real estate license in Florida, there is a 4th step.
CT/MA Licensees
- Step 1: Complete the 3-hour Lead Awareness course. Available as a pre-recorded class you can take at any time, or live via Zoom. Learn more at www.rirealtors.org/lead-paint or email [email protected].
- Step 2: Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCI) background check. Obtained from the Rhode Island Office of the Attorney General located at 4 Howard Avenue, Cranston, RI 02920. Any questions regarding BCI should be directed via email at [email protected]. For more information, click here
- Step 3: Apply with the RI Department of Business Regulation (DBR). Once you’ve completed your Lead Paint course and obtained a BCI, apply by completing a Real Estate Reciprocal Salespersons/Non-Resident Salesperson or Real Estate Reciprocal Broker Application using the eLicensing portal at https://elicensing.ri.gov/

Florida Licensee Mutual Agreement
- Step 1: Complete the RI Law Exam. To learn more or to schedule an examination, visit Pearson VUE. In the downloads section, refer to the Candidate Handbook page 3 for Candidates who hold a Valid Real Estate License in Florida. Content covered on the state exam can be found on the last page. RI REALTORS® also offers a RI Law e-learning prep course (see below)
