Are you up to date on your paperwork?
Since January 1, 2024, independent contractors have been required to register once per year by filing a DWC-11-IC Designation of Status as an Independent Contractor form with the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training. The purpose of the form is to show that a real estate licensee is working as an independent contractor – not as an employee – and is responsible for his/her own workers’ compensation insurance.
The form can be filed electronically or For Independent Contractors | RI Department of Labor & Training or by downloading and mailing a PDF: For Independent Contractors | RI Department of Labor & Training There is no filing fee.
If you change brokerages, make sure to file a Notice of Withdrawal of Designation of Independent Contractor form. For Independent Contractors | RI Department of Labor & Training There is no filing fee for this either.
DLT shares these filings with the Division of Taxation by April 1st each year.
