Code of Ethics
Code of Ethics is a National Association of REALTORS® requirement requiring members to complete within a 3-year cycle. When taken with RI REALTORS®, you will also earn 3 CORE education credits that may be used to renew your RI real estate license.
To inquire about Code of Ethics courses with other schools, please contact your local board.
Code of Ethics Current cycle (Cycle 8): January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2027
REALTORS® can check their Code of Ethics status by logging into the National Association of REALTORS® site. If you completed a Code of Ethics course during the cycle and the completion is not reflected when you login, please forward your certificate to your local board of REALTORS®.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a copy of my Code of Ethics certificate?
RI REALTORS® Professional Development Department is only be able to assist with certificate copies if the class was taken through the RI REALTORS® Professional Development Center. If you took the course with RI REALTORS®, email [email protected] for a copy of your certificate.
If you took Code of Ethics with ANY other school, please contact that school for your certificate and/or any other information.
Do you need to take Code of Ethics to renew your license?
Code of Ethics is not connected to license renewal, however, it is a requirement to remain in good standing with the National Association of REALTORS®.
Do I need to send RI REALTORS® Professional Development Center my certificate?
No. If you took the Code of Ethics class and have a certificate with any entity other than NAR or RI REALTORS®, you should send that to your local board to remain compliant.
What does the Code of Ethics course cover?
The official Code of Ethics details how REALTORS® should act with various parties such as:
- Your duties to clients and customers;
- Your duties to the public;
- Your duties to other REALTORS®.
At RI REALTORS®, the content includes Rhode Island-specific considerations and awards 3 CORE CE for license renewal. The Professional Development Center will automatically notify your local board of your completion on your behalf.
Are all licensees bound by the code?
While the code is helpful for all real estate agents, the specific NAR code is something that licensed REALTORS® subscribe to. However, even if you are not a licensed REALTOR®, using the code as a guideline for how you conduct business is also a helpful practice.
Can non-members still take the Code of Ethics course? Can I still take Code of Ethics for Rhode Island continuing education credits?
Yes. Any licensee is able to take the course for 3 CORE CEs with RI REALTORS®
