Pre-License Student Policies
To ensure a successful learning experience for all students, the RI REALTORS® Professional Development Center has established policies and behavior standards that support engagement and achievement. As a licensed education provider, we are also required to follow the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation’s guidelines for delivering the 45-hour pre-licensing course. All students are expected to read and adhere to the following policies.

ADMISSIONS POLICY
- Candidates must be 18 years of age or older.
ATTENDANCE POLICY
- Students must complete all 45 hours to be awarded a certificate of completion.
- Class starts promptly on time. Students will not receive credit for late arrival.
- In-person classes: any student who does not legibly sign their name on the sign-in sheet will be given an incomplete and be required to make up the session.
- Class #1 or class #2 must be attended. Students who miss both will not be permitted to continue and will need to move their registration to a future course.
- Any student who leaves before the class has completed or does not return after a scheduled break will be given an incomplete and be required to make up the specific class in its entirety.
VIRTUAL CLASSROOM POLICY
- You must have a webcam and microphone to participate in a Zoom class.
- Your camera must be ON while class is in session.
- Ensure you are visible from the shoulders up
- Ensure there is adequate lighting in the room
- Virtual backgrounds are prohibited. Students may use a ‘background blur’ ONLY.
- Join on time (recommended to join early to test audio/video). Late arrivals will not receive credit for attendance beyond 10 minutes.
- Driving or riding as a passenger in a vehicle is prohibited
- If viewing on a phone/iPad/laptop, the camera MUST remain stationary. Walking or excessive movement during class is prohibited.
- Engaging in other activities (working at a job, taking calls, housework, dog walking, cooking, childcare, exercise, recreation, socializing, attending public functions, shopping, visiting a salon, etc.) is prohibited.
- Leaving the room/view of the camera while class is in session for more than 10 minutes is prohibited.
- Please attend seated upright—avoid lying down on a bed or sofa.
Failure to adhere to the above policies may result in being removed from the class or being required to make up the session.
CONDUCT
- Students are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times. This includes adherence to the class schedule, dress, and decorum.
- Offensive and/or disruptive behavior or conversation directed at the instructor, staff, or other students is grounds for immediate dismissal from the entire course with no refund and no credit for the class. Offensive and/or disruptive conduct will not be tolerated.
- Recording the class or using AI note-taking apps is prohibited
IN-PERSON CLASSROOM POLICY
- All attendees MUST legibly sign the sign-in sheet to receive credit for attending. Signing for another student is not permitted under any circumstances.
- Students who fail to sign the sign-in sheet will be given an incomplete and be required to make up the session.
- Recording the class or using AI note-taking apps is prohibited
- If you miss a class, you will need to make it up at a later date via Zoom.
MAKE UP POLICY
- The first absence will be waived.
- After 1 absence, $30.00 fee PER make-up class unless there is documentation for a medical- or work-related absence.
- Documentation must include the specific date of the original missed class.
- No more than four (4) classes may be waived with documentation. In certain circumstances, your registration may be moved to a different session.
- Students have one year from the date of the last class attended to complete make-up classes.
- Make-up class Zoom links are sent by 4:00pm one day prior to class. If you did not receive the link, please contact [email protected] prior to 4:30pm.
- All Zoom/attendance policies apply for make-up sessions.
REFUND POLICY
- Cancelling WITHIN 72 HOURS PRIOR TO CLASS 1: Refund of all monies paid except a $25.00 registration fee.
- Cancelling AFTER Class #1 – Must be done within 24 hours of class #1 for a monetary refund. Students wishing to withdraw from a class must file their request by emailing RIAR Professional Development Department at [email protected] within 24 hours after class #1. From the monies paid RIAR shall retain:
- $25.00 Registration fee
- $50.00 for books and course materials (if received) including eBooks
Refunds may only be returned to the credit card originally used. Should you require a check refund, checks will be mailed out to the address on file within 30 days after the effective date of termination as defined above.
- NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN AFTER 24 HOURS OF CLASS #1. Under certain circumstances, these dollars can be applied to another sale’s pre-license course with the approval of the director of professional development within six-months.
- THERE ARE NO REFUNDS FOR ANY PHYSICAL OR DIGITAL BOOKS, NOR ARE BOOKS ACCEPTED IN RETURN UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Should you register in the future, provided the class is using the same edition of the books, the difference may be deducted from the total cost.
