How to Join MLS as a New Office

Please complete the following steps for applying for MLS membership and find information on the mandatory MLS Policies Webinar that is required of all new MLS Participants (Broker).

STEP 1: Complete your “Agreement to Participate”

  • Complete the “Agreement To Participate” and be sure the principal/manager and all owners of the firm sign it.
  • If applicable, have the application signed by an officer of your Local Board of REALTORS® certifying that you are a paid-in-full member in good standing with your Local Board of REALTORS®.
  • Return the agreement to MLS with a copy of your Brokers or Appraisal License.
  • Complete a Subscriber Authorization & Agreement Form for each new licensee

STEP 2: Attend Intro to MLS for New Participants eLearning Course

  • Upon receipt of your fully signed “Agreement To Participate” – MLS will contact you with your MLS ID and Password and other important information.  The MLS Participant (Broker) then has 60 Days to complete the MLS Orientation Video – “Intro to MLS for New MLS Participants”.  This course gives participants the required knowledge of MLS Rules, Regulations, and Policies so that they can provide service to their clients and licensees while avoiding difficulties, penalties, and fees. Learn about MLS billing procedures, listing regulations, and the tools and services included with your MLS subscription and RIAR membership. This class is required for all new MLS Participants (broker-owners and/or broker-managers).

Participants are required to complete all modules and Knowledge Checks and pass the final final exam with a score of 80% or better. After receiving a passing grade and filling out the course evaluation, your certificate will be available to download.

This course takes approximately one hour to finish and awards one (1) elective continuing education credit if your primary license is from Rhode Island (no CEs awarded to reciprocal licensees).

  • As a new MLS Participant/Broker you have the option of attending MLS classes including Matrix and TransactionDesk courses, at no cost (or to earn RI CEs, class fees apply).  These classes will go over all the functions of Matrix, help you become proficient with mapping features, execute faster and more complete searches, produce more effective CMA’s and more.  Any questions please email [email protected]
